• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

Ok, I travel a LOT now and I'm tired of the TSA "losing" my DVDs from my luggage, so I'd like to know how I can make a copy of a movie before I travel. That way I really will not care if one suddenly winds up "missing". Which program can I use to copy a DVD that will play on my MacBook and the hotel dvd players? Oh! I almost forgot, I only travel in the US, so region coding doesnt really matter.

First, if anything is missing from your luggage, you need to report it EVERYTIME. And why are you blaming the TSA. Luggage goes through several people before you see it again at your destination. How many DVDs are you bringing that you can't pack them into check on luggage.

Search this site for 'Mac the Ripper' or Handbreak.
