hi all,

i have a Dual 1.25GHz PowerPC G4 with 2MB L3 cache per processor with 768 MB DDR SDRAM that is running on OS X 10.3.9

i need to do some very basic video editing in 16 x 9 aspect ratio and unfortunately the iMovie 3.0.3 that came with my system does not support 16 x 9 aspect ratio.

i do plan to pick up some SDRAM to beef up to at least 2 GB.

but what software upgrade/update do i need to carry out this task?

i was going to update my OS to leopard and then get iLife 08 since it comes with iMovie HD 08 but then i read the fine print and it states that i would need intel processor in order to run iMovie HD 08.

what OS and which version of iMovie HD can i get with the system that i have?

thanks,
s

Go for it. The 1.25DP will be just fine.

Max out the RAM in your G4 to 2GB and go the Leopard route as your machine will handle it nicely. Perhaps a faster video card such as an ATI Radeon 9800 will also help.

You need iMovie HD 5 or 6. I have heard that buyers of iLife 08 can download iMovie HD 6 for free (iMovie 8 was a completely new program, which was a downgrade in many features and seemed to be more suitable for creating short youTube movies, which many users complained about). I don't know how you would go about downloading iMovie 6, so simplify things, try to just get iLife '06.
