Latencey in Garageband

Why is there latency when playing thru garage band with the monitors on..?
I have 2 gig of ram...

In part it's because you're running audio through software versus just hardware. Depending on what you're doing, you can get a fair amount of latency.

There are certain filters in GB that will give me a 0.2 sec amount of latency. Specifically if I'm using voice and modifying it, I can figure on getting that. If when I start GB I get more than that, I will close GB and restart it; latency drops to its normal level. My guess is that restarting the app resolves some memory allocation issues.

Fwiw, I too have 2GB of RAM.

You might try rebooting and then having nothing but GarageBand launched.
