"Recycled" folder

In my external hard drives, there is a folder named "Recycled" with different files and most of the images that I have thrown away from the folders in it. When i throw them away, i simply drag them to the trash. Why is that folder there, and can i delete the contents of it safely? This is eating into my disk space on the drives.

I have not seen the recycled folder. What version of the OS are you using? Also where is this folder located?

It is an external drive that I used on a Windows machine before bringing it to the Mac. I am on OS X

Here is my guess. Since you once used this disk on a PC . I assume that one of the M$ OS placed the recycled folder on the disk. As for space, I don't think any folder/directory takess up that must space.

Even if it is filled with images? At 2,5 megs EACH? If its in that drive and filled with images that big, i would think that it takes up space.

well then it must be a Fat32 indexed drive..

I've noticed on my fat32 drives that OSX leaves little .ds & recycling folders on them, I think they are normally hidden (on HFS+ drives)

Basically when you trash a file, it's not really trashed, just "forgotten".

In case you want to 'un-delete' that file I suppose...

Try 'secure empty trash' and see if it goes away...
