• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

I already have a hard drive & a monitor, why should I pay for hardware to watch satellite TV? I would like to just stream it over the net & watch it through my computer.

I've only found one software solution, but I'm wary to spend the $50 without knowing the video quality or the channel options.

Any advice, insight, or suggestions? I can't be the first person to want to do this.

I want to watch the Stanley Cup Playoffs!:Shouting:

From the net

From the net.

There are several Satellite to PC options, but only one for the mac. $50, but no guarantee regarding quality or content.

There is a NHL Center Ice online service, but it doesn't support Mac.

I'm getting the feeling that I'm going to have to wait until a solution is developed or run windows software....

In the UK we have services such as "Channel 4, on Demand" and "BBC iPlayer"

do US stations not host a free online service like this?
i remember one time when i was on the Heroes website it said if i was a member of the US i could watch the episode online, though because im not in the US it may not have been the full episode.

All of those Satellite to TV software deals are basically scams as far as I am concerned.

All you are paying for is to have the listing/menu of the online TV broadcasts already freely available on the web in one place.

You are not going to get any of the pay for stations that you will get with the satellite/cable services. Only the ones that you can already get for free on the web. They are a rip off.

None of them will guarantee the quality, because they broadcast nothing and do not even provide the viewer for watching them. Only a listing of what is available.

Why should you pay to watch satellite TV? Don't know. You don't have to. It is only an option if you like what it is they provide. Why is it you expect those TV stations to get everything from the cameras to the antenna arrays and the satellites required to broadcast across the country or around the world; to the guys holding those cameras catching all the action, the production crew, etc. to do this for free?
