• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

Search this forum for 'convert everio mod' without the quotes.

iMovie 08 might be able to deal with it, but older versions need you to convert the file, or use firewire if that connection is available.

Try a variation. Hint; drop the 'mod' word.

I had trouble converting .MOD files (type of MPEG2 file) after buying a panasonic camcorder. Never found the definitive answer on this forum. Plenty of leads - downloaded ffmpegX and DivX convertor free - but couldn't get them to work. This may just have been me.

In the end I had to spend money to fix it - £35 or probably about the same in $. To convert an otherwise unreadable .mod MP2 file to MP4 (which is what my version of iMovie needs) I bought Quick time Pro, then had to add Quick time MPEG2 at a cost and then added MPEG Streamclip which, merciful god, is free. It took these 3 things to get the file successfully into iMovie. It also takes quite a bit of time to convert every clip but works OK.
