• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

I was just wondering would you guys suggest to just upgrade your hard drive in a macbook pro to 7200rpm or would you just stick with the 5400 rpm drive and use a external 7200rpm to take care of business.. any thought?

Do you have some specific reason to get a faster drive? Yes... a faster drive would make the OS more responsive and speed up things in general due to faster access times, but they drain the battery faster and generate more heat. I'm not sure what kind of "business" you'd be willing to leave to an external drive for either.

For the internal drive, you could probably stick with the 5400RPM drive. 250GB isn't going to be enough for video editing or 3D work. Buy a external FW800 HD that's 7200RPM and as large as you can afford. I think you can pick up a 750GB external or make your own for $200.
You're going to need all the space you can get.
