I am running fusion with windows xp and i need a bit of help. I beleive the windows file is held somewhere in leopard I need clarification on the following in simple English please:

1 Where is the windows file ( cant find it )

2 Can this file be dragged in to an external hard drive to create a copy

3 Also does time machine create a backup of the virtual machine as its really part of leopard ?

I am running xp under a boot camp partition.

Thanks in advance

By default they should be under Documents > Virtual Machines. I believe you can copy this as it is nothing more than a file. Time Machine does indeed back this up unless you specify not to.

I might be wrong here but I think that the virtual machine file doesn't get backed up by Time machine (This according to VM's own site) Although you can compress them first. Which does make them backup able. You can also just click and drag the file to an extern HDD

Try a spotlight search for your file . It should be in your documents folder

You are correct! I am glad I came across this thread because I was assuming my virtual machines were being backed up! I am just going to do it manually now! Thanks.

I have a untitled hard drive disk on my desktop which seems to hold my windows stuff. Is this the disk i should copy to an external drive or do I copy the windows folder inside the disk.

Or should I be looking elsewhere

Just look for a file similar to Windows XP Home Edition.vmwarevm (or whatever you named your virtual machine). It should be fairly large (mine is 16GB). Just back up that file and you should be good to go.

My Fusion file(s) is /Users/user name/Virtual Machines.

But you can move it/copy it to another hard drive (which is what I have done).
