I'm trying to install the Windows Media Player plugin so I can stream XM Radio. However, when I open the downloaded file, it's displayed in plain text (even though it's obviously binary.)

I guess I'm still a Mac noob :|

Can anyone help?

I'm no pro yet but if you download a file specifically for windows wouldn't it look this way? Are you sure its a compatible program?

Is there a itunes program that will do the same.

The XM Radio player sent me to Microsoft's download website. One of the download choices is OS X Media Player plugin version 9.

There's your problem.

How do I use the XM Radio Online player on my Macintosh computer?
XM Radio Online supports Mac OS X 10.3.9 (Panther) or later with installed Windows Media® Components for QuickTime by Flip4Mac. Click here for more information about this FREE download.

Although we don't support running the XM Radio Online player on older versions of Mac OS X, we have had reports of success by installing Windows Media Player 9 for Mac OS X. Click here for more information about this FREE download.

First, what is the extension of the file you are trying to open?

Second, did you install the plugin, and then try to open the file through quicktime? Which I assume is what the plugin was installed for.

Thanks for the link :) And no, I was sent to Microsoft's download site.

EDIT: It works now. I needed to restart even though I wasn't prompted to.

I've had that happen in Safari, even when I am downloading a Mac binary. Just a tip - right-click on the link next time, and then click "Download linked file". Just a tip..
