• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

Hi. My panasonic HDD SDR-H20 video camera produces files that my Mac G5 power pc wont recognise. THe files end .MOD , .MOI , .PGI

I want to use iMovie but no go.

Any idea how I can access them?

I'd appreciate any help

The specs say that camera produces MPEG-2 files. You need to convert them. How to do that has been mentioned a million times here.

Never found the definitive answer. Plenty of leads - downloaded ffmpegX and DivX convertor free but couldn't get them to work. THis may just have been me.

In the end it was painful and expensive to fix. To convert an otherwise unreadable .mod MP2 file to MP4 (which is what my version of iMovie needs) I bought Quick time Pro for £20, added Quick time MPEG2 for a further £15 and had to then add MPEG Streamclip which, merciful god, is free. It took these 3 things to get the file successfully into iMovie. It also takes quite a bit of time to convert every clip.

Far better to check compatibility of camcorders before purchase, rather than be blinded by low prices at Dubai Int. and make an impulse purchase. Downloading straight into iMovie from a compatible camera is a far happier experience.

I'm sure there is an easier cheaper way of resolving this problem but I couldn't find it.

I recently discovered that I had the same problem - But only AFTER installing iLife 09. My 08 version recognised my camera but 09 doesn't. ***? I'm thinking of "going back in time" to see if it works ....... Time machine here I come.
