    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.

Hi everyone!

I'm a noob with iMovie, but the main interface says to drag media to import into a project. however, every time I try to drag a file (.avi .mpg .wmv) nothing happens. I tried the "import" option on the top menu and every files I have are light grey and won't let me select them.

Can someone please give me an advice or a quick "how-to"?

Thank you

I'm guessing you have iMovie 06 or earlier, in which case you'll need to download and install the codec pack Perian in order to import videos that are in formats other than .mp4

Problem solved. I went to the Apple Store yesterday and asked a "Genius".

I have to convert my files in mp4 format before importing them to iMovie.

Yea, that's one of the limitations of 08, you can't import any format playable by Quicktime like you could with 06.

To convert the videos, I would suggest checking out iSquint or ffmpegX for free solutions, and VisualHub for a not-so-free one.
