I am a PC user. I have not used Macs since my Applie IIe in the 80s. I just ordered the 1gHz Powerbook and I am excited. I did lots of research. What speed Intel chip would you compare the G4 1gHz to? Just curious.

4Ghz... :-D

In reality, it is difficult to really compare the chips because the machines are so different, and clock speed isnt everything. It seems to fall at about a 2.4 - 2.6 Ghz P4 or Athlon 2500 - 2700 XP. With altivec, the g4 can run circles around the p4 in doing anything processor intensive.

I hate to say this but, I see apple and oranges. Both chips do similar things but differently.

Mac does it more efficiantly. Theres a related thread some where around here...

But G4 and G5 does things a whole lot better than the Intels.
