Hi All,

Still very much getting onto the MAC OS....even after several months of ownership, there are certain things that just get me so frustrated.

So here is the deal. I download a lot of zip files. So imagine this huge see of zip files in my download folder. I unzip one of them, and poof, where did it go!

Is there any way that I can automatically switch to the folder/file that has just been extracted, so I don't have to spend several seconds searching for it every time. A lot of the time the thing that has been extracted is not named the same as the zip file, so its not right beside it when arranged alphabetically.

Thanks.

Sounds like a permission problem if the zip files are uncompressing then disappearing.

Try moving them to the desktop and try again. If that works you will need to repair permissions using MainMenu or disk utility. Or manually alter the permissions on that folder using get info

The only thing I can recommend is moving the zip file to your desktop before you extract it. That way, the zip contents will be extracted into a folder on your desktop where you can see it right away.

Are they expanded into the downloads folder found under G0>Home>Downloads in Leopard?

Actually, sorry. Its possible I could have created my own folder called 'downloads'.

Yeah they are in the default downloads folder that appears from the original install of Leopard.

Well when you double click a Zip is should create a new folder in that same folder so take a look around it sounds like theirs something wrong if the unzipped folder is not appearing.

The folder is appearing no problem, its finding the folder is the problem, in a sea of downloads. Especially if the extracted folder is named differently. It would just be handy if when you double click to extract the zip, you could hold a key, and it would automatically jump to the extracted folder.

What type of view are you using in the finder. (list, cover flow, or regular)

There is no set view that I use. I try and match the view that I use to best suit what I am doing at the time.

OK well make sure you are using the Regular view when you extract the file as in any other view it will put it in alphabetical order.

I understand that. This does not help however if the zip file is named differently than its contents. You then don't know what you are looking for.

Ahh I see my apologies, I have never (surprisingly) had a file in a .Zip be named differently than the file it contains or Visa Versa.
