Battery life?

I thought I'd start a conversation about battery life. My AW2 usually ends the day about 65% remaining. Three days a week I use it to track my workouts, connected by BT to a chest strap, for about 90 minutes, but that additional use does not seem to make a big difference to battery use.

What's your experience? Anybody have tips on making the battery last longer?

I can easily get two full days out of mine. One thing I do is turn off a lot of unnecessary notifications like from the news services. I do let Dark Sky keep me updated on the weather. I tend to get a fair amount of text and my calendar keeps me on track. I do let it track my steps. If I am travelling I let the maps feature tap me to notify me of a turn. I do mute all sounds and use only the haptic feature.

Today I got my AW3. I set it up around noon and when I got home it was on 87%. So far it seems to be having the same battery life as my AW2. I will keep an eye on it though.

Lisa, that's consistent with my experience. I will be eager to hear about the AW3. Did you get the LTE version? I'd be interesting to see how that affect the battery life.

Somebody is totally on the AppleWatch train it seems..:)

If you already have a AppleWatch (or AW2), there's likely no real reason to pick up AW3 unless you get the cellular as well, no?

I've been pondering picking up a couple of AW3s for me and my wife..

Well, I don't have the AW3, but the speed is supposedly improved, which may or may not be worth the cost of the upgrade from AW2. It guess it depends on your personal finances (and preferences). The cellular feature is interesting, but for me, I'm waiting to see how it works in the real world and to see how Apple updates it through watchOS4 updates. But the prospect of the AW turning into a true "**** Tracy" wrist phone is intriguing.

The prospect of AW being the D1ck Tracy phone from the first version was intriguing to me, but obviously that didn't happen. At the same time, I wouldn't be the one to hold a conversation through a speakerphone in public anyway. I'd have to use a BT headphones with microphone to do that..so in my case it'd be more the ability to leave my phone behind during family hikes and still be accessible (through SMS or whatever)..

Yeah, I agree. Talking to my wristwatch is public ain't gonna happen, but a BT earbud connection, for emergency use, could be good. I doubt any lengthy conversations are going to work because the battery drain will be ferocious, but a quick, "Come pick me up," or "I'm going to the Emergency room," type communication would be useful, particularly for those folks who go for longer runs in rural areas. And the ability to phone 911 with the watch could be a lifesaver, literally.

Ashwin, Yes I am on the Apple Watch train. I love them. For me, it is the perfect compliment to my iphone. I wanted the cellular so I could leave my phone behind when I walk outside for exercise. I want the SOS ability just in case of a problem. We also use texting at work to communicate as we are in a large facility and I move around it a lot. If I forget my phone I am unable to get text in areas our wifi does not reach.
