Any new news on Apple's plans for chips & stuff ?
Like a lot of people i am wondering just which way Apple is going to jump when it comes to making chips for new Apple computers. I myself am sitting here with a few bucks wanting to update/upgrade my desktop system. Thanks to Apples policy of cutting off systems they deem as "to Old" i now have 2 Mac Pro desktops and a Macbook Pro that are cut off from new OS upgrades even though all three systems still work well and the latest Desktop has 16 gig of ram and 2 SSD drives, a total of 2 T of hard drive space and a good video card, yet Apple says it's to old to run Mojave.

I would love to buy a new iMac with about 16 gig of ram, maybe 2 T of SSD drives, a i7 or i9 processor, but no one seems to have anything other than i5's. And when you add the fact that about every "brand new" Mac i see on the shelf has a 2014-2015-2016-2017 date i simply refuse to buy one of these machines that will be unable to run a new OS within a couple to 3 years.

Come on Apple do i really have to buy a new computer every 2-3 years just because you want to sell off your almost outdated inventory ? I may end up having to buy a new windows machine, but you can darn well bet it won't be running windows.

Do you always listen to what other people say and actually follow their advice??? If your current Macs cannot run Mohave, then they must be at least seven years old which is a pretty good time in computer years.

Besides that, is there anything you really must have or need that only Mojave can provide???

Apple certainly has various i7 iMac models available and if you want more, especially with all that money burning a hole in your pocket, maybe one of the iMac Pro models would suit you.

Maybe you should just take stock and have another look at your situation and have another look around as to your options and what's available.

There are only rumors, until Apple releases the specs for their new Macs. Everything you are looking for is Available fro Apple, https://www.apple.com/shop/browse/home/specialdeals/mac, check out the iMac Pro.

As a matter of fact yes i usually always listen to what other have to say, now following their advice i have to admit i don't very often do that, a practice i must admit sometimes gets me into trouble, more often keeps me out of trouble. As for your Mojave question, there is nothing actually in Mojave that would entice me to install it other than the dark Mode, i rather like that as i spend many time up to 12 hours straight looking at the computer screen, the other "new" stuff it has i really don't use. And just what makes a 7 or 8 year old computer that has the horse power unable to run on for another few years other than Apple saying so ?. I have an old gaming computer i built 20 years ago, water cooled, pretty lights, all the good stuff that still plays the games as good as the day it was built.

What seems to be around as you say is actually rather slim unless you are ready and able to spend from $3,500 to $7,000,which i am not. I am looking at a price range of from $1,600 to maybe as much as $2,200, anything else would be a waste of money and over kill for sure. Maybe you should look around a bit before handing out such sage advice. I was on the Apple refurbish site and the only thing they have with i7 processors are mostly Macbook Pros at higher prices than i want to pay and a couple others like Mack Pro ash can models for over $4K

I see you are based in beautiful BC, what a great place that is i would love to live there, have been to BC 4 times now and have yet to see an ugly spot. Only thing that keeps me from moving there are the looooong cold icy winters, other wise i would move there in a flash. Just something about 30 below at night that doesn't appeal much to the old body.

Your right they have an impressive number of refurbished Macs for sale, but if you run down the whole list you will find that mostly the only ones with i7 processors are MacBook Pros which is not what i want and the others are high priced models like iMacPro and Ash cans which all start at about $4K & up, defiantly not in my price range. But i thank you for the url i was wondering where the refurbished had gotten off to.

Thank you for your nice comments of our beautiful area, but not even my eldest son who lives in Whitehorse Yukon seldom has two put up with 30 below temperatures, and even those temps for that area only exist for a few days.

The Southern Vancouver Island area where I live has some of the mildest temperatures in all of Canada, but we do get a fair bit of rain, and especially on the west coast.

Actually, we don't broadcast the fact that we don't live in igloos nor veto the rumors that our weather here is nothing more than ice and snow and freezing temperatures. That helps keep the riffraff away who don't know any better!!! Actually our temperature/Climate is very close to that of Seattle Washington.

PS: regarding Apple's Macs, I was rather surprised that they seem to hide the i7 models at their online store iMac webpage, at least their Canadian one. And yes, any good high end refurbished models seem to disappear very quickly and are quite sought after.

Ah ha the Vancouver area is it, ya i would think that the weather there would be a bit more on the moderate side than the area where i was doing most of my visiting which is around 80 miles or so south of Prince George in an area called Quenel (probably spelled wrong been a long time) that was close to the Gold country. I remember the first time i went there i talked to a friend that lived there every night starting in March and it was almost through May before the night temps got high enough before i would venture up there, me and the wife came on motorcycle. Was one of the best rides the wife and i ever had, and we covered about 43 of the US states, 4 times into BC and Alberta and once the province where Niagara Falls is located. Not all at once of course but over a five year time period. Last trip down the Canadian Rockies was the second of June and the temp was a balmy 18 degrees with snow at the edge of the road and at least 3 feet of ice on the lakes...loved it was well worth the trip. Loved every minute spent in Canada as the people were all friendly as heck, that is except for the border guards who just could not believe that an American motorcycle rider was not carrying a gun....(G)

Don't blame you for not advertising the beautiful BC, last thing you would want for sure is for a bunch of California Democrats to move in and start doing to BC what they have done to California...not a pretty sight for sure...I would say God Bless BC, but i would be to late, as he has already most certainly done so...

Also, don't forget, your Mac, will still do everything it could do yesterday. And it will be able to do that, until some hardware part/piece on it dies.

And it's probably still quite capable of doing a lot of things on it that were never even tried. Sometimes we just get into a rut and just stick with old habits.

Very true Patrick. Every time I think about a brand new 2018 or 2019 Mustang GTX and what it would cost, I think I'll stick with my 98 model. Besides, what would an old dude like me be doing driving around in something like that. LOL

Well, taking a 2018 Mustang Shelby GT350 out for a spin or two does sound like a bit of fun, but I must admit that I have never driven such a car, especially the models with the high horsepower torquey power plants some models have these days.

Yep that is true, but it isn't really the hardware part i am worried about but rather the software. I know hardware can go on forever, i have a water cooled gamer rig i built 20 years ago that still works great, but of course the new games today won't work on it because it is running under XP instead of winders 10 and they are written to take advantage of the new features of the new OS, so that leaves me having to run the old programs that don't have all the new features. Kind of one of those damned if you do and damned if you don't situations .
