Yay! About time..I can finally look to ditch my iPhone 4 now..

The "sell older models" approach seems to be working quite well for Apple. Why would they, a company that doesn't like fracturing product lines, make a "light" model when the current approach works so well?

I think the "light" model actually works quite well in a lot of countries where the price of the phone isn't subsidized with any sort of contract. The premium price that iPhone's go for making it unattainable to the masses..dropping the price by a good chunk with a lower-featured model would definitely help here..

Plus..I know both the 5S and the "cheap iPhone 5" are coming out for a fact..

Isn't the iPhone 4(s) subsidized to no end? Here, you can get a 4 for $0 with a contract and the 4s for about $100. Sure, it may cost more elsewhere.

I agree completely, Apple has never believed in fragmenting their product lines (something that they learned from Jobs' return to Apple in the 90's) and it boggles my mind that they are releasing this iPhone 5C- which we all know they will say the "C" stands for color but it really means cheap. What really confuses me is that just last year, Phil Schiller made a public comment that Apple "never plans on building a budget phone". But yet, it appears they are?

The old way of keeping secrets in and out of Apple seem to be fading since we are getting a lot of information about future Apple products before launch..

So the new tactic might be to claim that they are NOT going to do something while working hard to make it happen before people realize you were lying..

And there is no more excitement now like there used to be, because once Steve passed the leaks are more and more and by the time it comes out, we know what it looks like, and what it has as added features already . .. .
