AT&T to start unlocking off-contract iPhones

Well now this just blew my mind. AT&T actually doing the right thing for a change.

AT&T to set (some) iPhones free beginning April 8

AT&T has confirmed that it will begin unlocking iPhones for qualifying customers beginning Sunday, April 8...

According to AT&T, the iPhone you want to unlock can't be associated with a current active term commitment, and you must already be out of your contract terms (usually two years from purchase) or you must have paid an early termination fee. Your account must be in good standing, too—no $700 overdue phone bills for you.

It needs a new screen assembly. I had to fix the borked home button and in the reassembly process, I tore the digitizer cable so it no longer recognizes touch. If it was fixed, I was thinking $150-200.

I sold my wife's iPhone 4 32GB a couple weeks ago for $325 on eBay. Not even unlocked or jailbroken. US buyer. I just can't get over how these hold their value.

I have to applaud AT&T for finally doing this....
