Hi,

I was just wondering if a brand new macbook is suppose to come with certain printer models already installed into the system?

I just bought a macbook few weeks ago and I noticed I have two printers already installed into the system:

They are Bonjour printers, one is called Cyril's Printer and the other is called OLD4DD4C.

Does anyone else have these on their the macbooks?

Thanks for your help!

I can tell you that my Macbook did not come with any pre-installed printers, and neither did my sister's. Sure, it comes with drivers, but definitely not with printers already installed.

Looks to me you either got a used/floor model or the technician testing your computer messed up.

It has been a little more than 14 days since I bought my macbook. Do you think Apple will exchange mine for a new one?

I do believe I have a good reason to ask for a macbook that is actually brand new since this one seems to be used when they claimed to have sold me a brand new one.

I'm not sure how they would respond to this but I would be really grateful if anyone can give me some advice as to what I should do? Thanks!

also....
under bookmarks I also found a folder called Bonjour and in it, it said

(someone's name)'s PowerBook G4 12" (ftp)

does anyone know what this is and whether this is suppose to be on a brand new macbook? i'm guessing no?

Could it be that they are networked printers from neighbors that are automatically discovered? This happened to me while in my dorm, my computer found other people's printers on the network. I printed a page of text to each of them telling them that they were online and networked so everyone could access them, and most of them were taken off.

Disconnect the internet, then restart. Check to see if you still see the FTP. If so, I would take it in and have a talk with the manager.

You should've been questioning this issue a little earlier. You might have a hard time arguing your case... who says that you didn't put it on there yourself? (just looking at it from Apple's POV) Although, there may be a way of finding out when it was actually installed -- I'm not sure, maybe someone here can enlighten us.

prpandey is right, if you had noticed this the first day you bought it, then it would have been quite easy to get it replaced. But since it's been more than two weeks, it'll be far more difficult.

Agree with above. It's a little late to be asking this question. Apple is pretty hard on the 14 day policy.
Honestly, if it's a problem, reformat the computer and it will be like brand new again.
I work in the returns department for a large photographic retailer. Sometimes people try something for 2 days and return it. It really bothers me when someone complains about not getting a "brand new" unit. If someone opens a box or touches it before you, does it really matter?
I don't mean to sound like a jerk, I am just saying. Plus, I hate my job. So I need to vent. :)

Bonjour printers are printers that are shared somewhere on the network...you didn't actually install them but your computer sees them

Thanks. I bought it for $40, shipping included, on eBay. It had an AirPort card in it so I parted it out for $130 and glued it back together for a cat bed.
If he only used it...

You should be able to see Bonjour printers over a network, but that doesn't mean that they would be listed in your Printer Setup Utility. If they are listed, then someone actually added them. In other words, you could be on a college network and see dozens of Bonjour printers. But until you actually Add them, they won't be listed in your list of printers.
