I am currently running 4 computers (all used daily)

Win desk top, internet, light MS office, ipod management, sync palm with outlook.

imac 17in intel, Audio editing, gimp, iweb and blogging.

ibook g4 1.2, portable, couch worker/surfer, mobil work computer (MS office files from win desk on flash drive.

Win laptop (P4 15 inch read: not portable) only kept because in a class I teach I have to demostrated processes on windows and mac.

I am considering a macbook (black) & a copy of windows, and just keep the imac. The mac book would "dock" on the desk and run windows, ms office, firefox and manage my ipod, palm cameras and printer.

I could then replace 3 computers with one. But I need to confirm a few things. I know there is a "dock" for the macbook but it is pricey. I will need a simple way to manage my printer, camera, palm, ipod wired internet etc. by simple I mean easy to "undock" it to take with me to the couch or work.

I know from experience that I can not run a camera, printer or palm through a usb hup on a windows machine. (tried two different computers and 4 different hups.) Will I be able to run a hub for my palm etc. on the macbook? This would allow for just unhooking the power, internet and 1 usb to move the computer.

Sorry if I am not super clear, but any thoughts or ideas would be welcome.

That is the dock I reffered to. I love it but it is a little pricey. I tend to spend about 2k a year on computers and such so I am hoping to get into this set up for the cost of the macbook, full windows copy and a hub with ipoddock.

Basically, I want the macbook to hit the desk at night, sync the handheld and ipod. Manage a few things in the morning then leave for the day with me and hit the couch in the evening, then back to the desk.

Remembered another question, I will be using an external monitor on the desk, can the macbook run closed? Or do I need to set it up so that it is open a little?

The MacBook can run closed. But I couldn't find any other docking stations for it. You might as well buy it if you need it. You can always sell it when you sell the MB.

Thanx, that does solve the docking problem and the price is not too bad I guess. But the usb part of the dock is basically just a hub. Anyone running a pda, printer and camera (kodak with a dock) through a hub on a Mac? I have never got this to work on a PC.
