I want to get the new 2019 MBP 16" and I expect to pay $2900-3300

I do lot of heavy editing on Lightroom, I want to get into making short 4k videos (<10 min) on Premiere with my Sony a7iii & DJI Drone; other than that I use my laptop for browsing, Netflix, microsoft word.

I'm considering

#1 --- 1TB + 2.3GHz 8 core i9 + 32 GB + AMD 5500M 4GB = $3200

#2 --- 512GB + 2.6GHz 6 core i7 + 32 GB + AMD 5500M 4GB = $2900

Is #1 overkill for what I'm doing? I'm not expecting to do any professional video production and am ok with 512 GB & external hard drives.

Specs

Which processor? 2.6GHz 6 Core i7 / 2.3GHz 8 core i9 / 2.4GHz i9

Which RAM/Memory? 16GB / 32GB / 64GB

Which Graphics card? AMD 5300M 4GB / AMD 5500M 4GB / AMD 5500M 8GB

Not with a new 2019 MBP 16" you might not, if I dare say so.

Which versions of Lightroom are compatible with macOS Catalina?
Lightroom 3.x works with macOS 10.15 (Catalina) but has these known compatibility issues. You may want to remain on your current version of macOS until these issues have been resolved.
Lightroom and macOS Catalina (10.15)

I’ve never bought a Mac that I didn’t use for at least 6 years, more typically 8-12yrs. So, I wouldn’t let the $300 difference be the deciding factor.

Same here - I would go with the 1 TB drive especially on a portable.
I wouldn't want to carry around an external whenever I take the MBP somewhere.

I don't know what your current MAC model is or how much available space you have left on it or what its size is, but I dare say when doing video, drive space can suddenly disappear pretty fast and 1 TB drive may not be even be enough. Maybe compare it to what you currently have.

$300.00 difference is peanuts and almost loose change when in that calibre of a Mac model and probably a model you will probably be keeping for some time.

I think this os where paying "Apple Tax" becomes acceptable.

My first iMac (bought in 2007) is still going strong and looks wise is no different to the day it first came out of its box. I also have a 2010 white MacBook which is like new both cosmetically and functionally.

I would hope and expect the MBP I just bought to last at least 7-10 years and based on that, the extra outlay will be miniscule.
