I have a MacBook Pro, Early 2011, 15 inch, 2.2 Ghz, Intel Core i7. The original battery has died, and needs to be replaced.
Two questions:
1) Looking at Amazon, BestBuy, etc, it seems that many replacement batteries get lousy reviews. So, I would be extremely grateful for any thoughts about good brand names.
2) One of the reviewers at Amazon wrote, "Be sure to zap the PRAM and reset the SMC upon new battery installation." I have not seen that anywhere else. Is it good advice. If so, how is it done?
Thank you.

Purchase a replacement battery from OWC (macsales.com):

https://www.macsales.com

These cost a bit more than the $30-$40 batteries you see on Amazon & Ebay...but they will fit & perform well. And depending on the kit you purchase...it will come with the tools you need.

I replaced the battery in my 2011 17" MacBook Pro a while back...I fooled around with some $35 eBay batteries...had some fitment & performance issues...and wasted a lot of time shipping the batteries back & forth.

Ended up purchasing a replacement battery from OWC...it fit & performed perfectly. I should have purchased from OWC first...and not wasted a lot of time with inferior batteries.

HTH,

- Nick

Thank you. That's what I'll do.
