Hi,

I've been having trouble with a mid 2014 MacBook Air 11" (A1465). It was dropped and the display stopped working. It isn't dead, there's just nothing displayed. The MacBook boots up fine with the chime and fans woking as normal. I originally thought it was the display cable as there wasn't anything displayed when I connected it up to an external display. Swapped that out. Hasn't fixed it. Replaced the logic board. Hasn't fixed it. Replaced the screen. Hasn't fixed it.

So at the minute I have a replacement logic board fitted with a replacement screen and I'm still having the same problem as day 1. Can anyone recommend anything else?

Thanks in advance,

Ian

Welcome to the forum. Liquids and computers don't work well together, as you have discovered.

Nothing being seen on the external display typically points to the graphics chip, but you say you replaced the logic board and that didn't fix it. At this point I would be saving my $$ for that new MBA I think you are going to need. Sorry about that, but you've replaced just about everything it could be.

Sell the new parts you bought and don't spend any more time or money on it. You have given it a really good shot. Honestly, I adopted a no liquids on the same surface as my MBP policy years ago.

Thanks.

I've already been thinking about just ripping it apart and selling the parts individually anyway but I thought maybe someone on here would have an idea that I've not thought about. Oh well.

Thanks anyway gents.
All the best

Sorry to hear about the unfortunate things. As you've experienced...Liquid + Laptop is not a good combination. Over the years as I've read more & more of these stories...I've greatly adjusted both my eating and drinking habits in proximity with my laptop use.

Eating and drinking around an iPad or iPhone is probably much safer...but still probably not 100% immune to liquid spills (unless it's protected by a watertight case).

I've managed to get somewhere!

Before I admit defeat I thought I'd just leave the Mac plugged in, turned on, with a bootable USB stick inserted. A shot in the dark. Left it a few hours and when I can back the installation screen was displayed!

I ran the diskutil list command and the hard drive isn't listed.

Could it be that all that was wrong was a dead hard drive? I don't see any corrosion etc. I think I'm going to clean it up with isopropyl alcohol and try my luck. I've stripped the screw that holds it in so I'm going to have to fix this issue first. FML

The vexed question remains however - did the glass of wine survive?

It followed the same fate as the MacBook parts - It was swiftly replaced!
