So I have the Dell xps 15 9560 from a couple of years ago with an i7 +16ram +512. Now I need macOS for iOS development, my question is, should I sell my dell and buy a Macbook pro? or buy an entry level mba or mbp 13 as a secondary laptop?

I already tried to run a virtual machine on my Dell, and well it wasn't a pleasant experience...

It wasn't clear when you said "MacBook Pro" if you meant a 15" MacBook Pro (you did mention "mbp 13" as well).

I would say if you're new to Apple computers...getting a 15" MacBook Pro right off the bat...might be overdoing it...since 15" MacBook Pro's tend to be some of the most expensive computers Apple sells.

I think a 13" Macbook Pro or MacBook Air should be fine...heck...get yourself a used one to keep costs down...till you know you are comfortable with things. And if you need a larger workspace...connect an external monitor.

If you like things...then make your 2nd Apple purchase something more substantial.:)

We don't really support this sort of setup anyway.;)

Go down the Mac Mini route (refurbished even) to save money and allow you to do the iOS development. You can keep your XPS as the mobile computer.

I went most of my life with Windows based computers, and after my third HP laptop's battery quit I decided to go sleep with the enemy. I had this idea of Mac's being for artsy pretentious novelists (this was dumb impressionable early 20's me). Suffice to say after making the transition and time spent learning the ecosystem, I'm on my fifth novel (kidding).

The truth is I work with both, but for personal use I absolutely love Apple computers. I've had my 13" 2014 MBP Retina since early 2015 and the only issue I've had with it resulted from me swapping out the factory 128GB SSD for an OWC Aura Pro 1 TB SSD. My only advice would be to make sure you get the one you want. I went with a 128GB SSD and now regret not going with a factory 512GB. In the last five years Apple has made it near impossible to upgrade factory components. Everything is mated and soldered in place, so be sure to order one that will accommodate your workflow. The positive here, is that if you get what you want, it'll likely last you a long long time. My wife's 2011 MBP is still going strong in 2019.
