Someone brought me a pair of identical 2010 MacBook Pro notebooks for a display swap. I powered on the unit with the donor screen to verify it was functional before disassembly, but after the swap I can't get the display working on EITHER computer! Connected an external monitor via miniDP and checked the display settings, does not detect internal display. SMC and PRAM reset have made no difference.

Might be a bad connector or connection.

Why were you doing this? I ask because I'm assuming the display on the recipient device was not working. If so is it possible that connecting the donor screen to the recipient device might cause the same problem to occur on the donor screen.
