So I've upgraded RAM, hard drive and battery so wondered if it is possible to fit USB 3 into my machine? If so is it worthwhile? are there any other upgrades that can be made to my machine? really pleased with its performance but trying to make it last as long as possible. TIA

USB 3 requires hardware/hub changes that not something that is a user upgrade. You want USB 3.0, you have to buy a Mac that supports it.

I did a search on the early 2011 MBP and it looks like it was the first MBP with a Thunderbolt port. My late 2011 does also so that adapter should work. Too bad it's so expensive or I would get one for my 2011!

Thanks Bob for posting that. Never saw that before today.

You may be able to find something used on eBay. And, even a Thunderbolt 2, should be backwards compatible with Thunderbolt on the 2011 MBP. Maybe a dock, or some type of hub?
