Hi Guys,

I've got an weird issue, when running in OSX my CPU consistently hits 95c on the maxing out the fan speed just playing video on Firefox, I've reinstalled OSX and Cleared the SMC, but when in boot camp Windows 10 the CPU barely crosses 65c performing the same task, I'm pretty much using my mac as a windows laptop at this point. Any ideas shorts of replacing the TIM (I don't mind doing that but I'd rather use that as a last resort)?

My first suggestion would be to not use Firefox? Or, does the same thing happen, with other browsers?

Does it only happen on a certain website?
What specific OS X/macOS version?
Do you use any ad or content blockers?
Are any other apps running?

Running the latest version of High Sierra firefox has Ublock origin installed, the temps at idle with no apps running are sitting in the 69-75 range, which seems way to high. Even when runningo only safar with no extenstions I get the same heating issues. These are clean vanilla installations with no additional apps, and yet windows in bootcamp has no such problems.

Have you tried to run Apple Diagnostics, https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202731? I can’t see it being a hardware issue, since it works fine in winOS.

Another thing to try, would be to set up a new user account, and see if the issue is still there?

Since CPU is multi tasking let look in more detail what is it doing when your run your video

Open Terminal app in your Utility folder and type
Code:
Top -o -cpu

that will show you real time who is using cpu.

On the right side you will also see the split between cpu-me and cpu-other

Please report your result.

Or just open Activity Monitor from the Utilities folder and look at the CPU usage tab. Click on the column header to see everything that is using the CPU, heavy hitter on top.

Oh, BTW, if you do use the terminal command, hit the q key to quit the process. Frankly, Activity Monitor is much easier, IMHO.

On the other hand it could be a mechanical and or environmental issue.
What is the temp where you are using the device?
Is the device getting good air circulation around it?
Is the fan working as designed?
Could the device be full of dust?
Bear in mind that 95 C is not out of the ballpark as far as CPU temps go under heavy demand.
Having said that, I am in Indonesia the temp is 29 C where I am at the moment and use Macs Fan Control on my 2016 13" MBP to increase air flow. At the moment my CPU temp running Firefox is 47 C @ 1290 rpm.
