Some questions:

1. When you say you removed the RAM...what exactly did you do?
2. If you removed the HD...what alternate source were you trying to boot the computer from?
3. Before the kernel panics started...did you do anything unusual...such as installing software, updating or upgrading the OS...or doing a firmware update?
4. What OS version is installed on the HD?

Not necessarily true as the GPU has two modes of operation, one for simple, low demand graphics and the other for more detailed graphic operations. Not saying the GPU is the problem, just that you cannot rule it out at this point.

hi nick

1. When you say you removed the RAM...what exactly did you do?
i changed to new RAMS and tried single ram slot
2. If you removed the HD...what alternate source were you trying to boot the computer from?
Basically i tried to boot using my previous HDD and new HDD. Tried reinstalling El Capitan. Doesnt work anymore and couldnt get pass recovery mode.
3. Before the kernel panics started...did you do anything unusual...such as installing software, updating or upgrading the OS...or doing a firmware update?
It was running on bootcamp Windows and attempted to install linux. Nothing unusual. No firmware updates done. Then I rebooted the kernel panics occured
4. What OS version is installed on the HD?
El Capitan and Windows 7

Have you got a known good backup (even Time Machine maybe with that era Mac) or clone drive you can try booting from??

Do you have the OS X install disks that came with the MBPro and try booting with them???

It was running on bootcamp Windows and attempted to install linux.

Are you saying that all was working fine...and either during the Linux install or right after the Linux install...this is when the kernel panics started?

El Capitan and Windows 7

Will the computer boot into the El Capitan Recovery Partition ok/normally?

Yes i was able to boot to Windows previously until i restarted after installing Linux. I never had a problem with Linux on this mac before. And then when i restarted it gave me the kernel panics. Not sure if it was Linux or Windows...Now I can't boot into any operating system

It will crash as per photo above. It wouldnt even let me go past recovery partition. I was never successful into going recovery mode. It will just crash

have you tried all the different Recovery key combinations?

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204904

There are a few different options, let us know if it helps.

Personally, I believe you will need to wipe the drive and reinstall. Or, if you can boot to a different drive, you should be able to pull your data off the "afflicted" drive.

It may even help to try booting using Safe Boot Mode. At least it's no big deal to at least try it.

BTW: Were those models also affected by the bad graphics/logic board that Apple had an extended replacement for that was available and done on my 2007 15" MacBook Pro model? And if so, was the replacement done? That plan as long since expired.

Just a thought.

I'm still wondering if something "funky" happened during the running of Windows & doing the Linux install right around the time the kernel panics started. Usually if the KP's are something software/OS based...booting from a problem-free secondary HD will solve things. If something like this happens (not hardware based KP's)...and booting from a clean/problem-free external HD doesn't help...then I'm thinking something firmware-based could be the issue.

For example...if a firmware update/upgrade was applied...and it was either the incorrect firmware upgrade...or something happened in the middle of a firmware upgrade (computer was shut off for example)...then maybe these KP's could be the result.

Of course many times KPs are hardware based (many times bad RAM based)...and RAM was already mentioned as swapped out by the OP. if this situation is a hardware based KP issue...then maybe it was an unfortunate coincidence that these KP's started at the same time as the Linux install.

i too had a feeling it was caused by the linux install but really not sure what happened. this macbook have gone through thick and thin with me. one of the most solid laptops. trying out different fixes and until i decide to retire this macbook. i am just certain theres no hardware issues else i would have known.

maybe you're right kp was caused by linux install or incorrect firmware upgrade. i remember that i didnt do any firmware upgrade. or maybe it was in the midst of firwmare upgrade i shut down or restarted i aint too sure. i had it upgraded with an SSD. so how do i go by fixing it? please advise. is there a way? i've tried connecting my drive via usb, recovery, new hdd all gave me KP.

Will it even boot into Target Disk Mode??

Press and hold down the T key at boot time.

PS: is there any startup boot chime with your boot attempts???

I'm wondering if the Linux install tried to install GRUB, got half done, got broken, now when it tries to boot GRUB tries to do things the Mac can't/won't handle and ends up in a KP. The KPs shown all seem to be occurring in different places, but none of them have even identified what version of macOS it's trying to load. At this point I'm wondering even if somehow the machine can be boot from an external completely? Not recovery, not Safe Mode, totally external, like a USB drive or thumb drive.

Whatever it is, it's happening really early in the boot process, according to the KP reports. So has an external boot process been tried?
