Late-2011 MacBook Pro’s and Snow Leopard

Has any member here performed a software downgrade from the pre-installed Lion 10.7.2 to Snow leopard 10.6.8 on any late-2011 MacBook Pro (any size) and if it was successful or failed and what you found? Thank you.

If your Mac shipped with Lion, then it cannot run any Operating System earlier than that - which would include Snow Leopard.

When I bought my Late 2011 MBP off eBay, it came with Snow Leopard already installed.

You would need to use the Snow Leopard install disc, to erase the internal drive, then you will be able install Snow Leopard, I believe. When you erase the disk, make sure you make it one single partition, so you will erase the Lion recovery partition as well.

Early MBP 2011came with Snow Leopard OS X.6.6. Late 2011 all came with Lion OS X.7.2.

A software downgrade to Snow Leopard can't be done on that model since it was pre-installed with Lion. You may be able to create another partition and install Snow Leopard to that partition but the initial boot up will be to Lion. There may be a work around somewhere and you're welcome to search for it.

so I've found some workarounds to install Snow Leopard on a mid-2011 MBA and a late-2011 MBP and when I get the MBP next week, I'll try to do the install and post a step-by-step process for anyone else that may want to try it.

I'd say you've got a very good chance with the mid-2011 MBA, but not so with the late-2011 MBP, but it might be an interesting exercise.

And I believe you'll need SL 10.6.7 as a minimum. And I wonder if Apple still supplies the Rosetta add-on download that many apps needed to work properly???

Rosetta is included on the Snow Leopard CD. He can still purchase that from Apple for $19.95.

Maybe, and maybe also depending on the discs/versions one has, but it sure wasn't my experience the last time I installed Snow Leopard 10.6.7 (White Not for resale Disc from Apple) on my mid-2011 iMac.
