Hello, I've tried searching the web for an answer to this problem, but I cannot find anything, so I thought I'd check here.

I purchased the new Retina 2018 MacBook Air. It works great and I like it, except for one annoying thing that I discovered today. When the laptop is fully powered off, not in sleep mode, but actually fully powered off, pressing the trackpad, or any key on the keyboard powers on the laptop. I found on the Apple website that this is not a bug, but an actual feature. They also say on the Apple website that in order to properly clean your MacBook you need to power it off, and clean with a damp cloth.

Well when I power the laptop off, and attempt to clean the keys on the keyboard, I inadvertently press keys, which promptly powers the laptop back on. This makes it impossible to clean the keyboard with the laptop powered off.

I can't find any setting which disables this "feature". Does anyone know how I can disable this?

Welcome to our forums.

I checked around and could not find anything that disables that "feature". I would advise you though, to be careful about cleaning the keys as you can actually damage your new MacBook Air if liquid or anything gets down between those keys. Just keep your hands clean and do not eat or drink around your new MBA. No need to clean the keys.

I guess Apple forgot to provide any such option with those Macs and it seems that it's a normal thing for those models:
Additionally, MacBook Pro (2018) and MacBook Air (Retina, 13-inch, 2018) turn on when you press any key on the keyboard or press the trackpad.

Thanks for looking into it. This is a really suckie feature. A am a profuse hand sweater. I would never eat while using something that I paid this much money for, but my hands do sweat, and this does deposit gunk onto the keyboard. There is little I can do about that. I clean all of my keyboards this way with a very, very slightly dampened lint free cloth. It's not a problem as long as the computer is off, and doesn't start registering keypresses.

Or get a keyboard cover.

Not meaning to pry or get personal, but if it helps:
Excessive, uncontrollable sweating of the hands or palms, is called palmar hyperhidrosis. …It's proven and published that palmar hyperhidrosis has the most significant negative impact on patients' lives of any dermatologic condition.

But there are treatments available, the treatments work, and you have a number of choices.

Not sure what you meant by that comment, but the suggestion to get a keyboard cover was a good one. It will not only keep your hand sweat out of the keys, but dust and dirt as well. Using one of those, you can then forego the damp cloth on the keyboard and just remove the keyboard cover, clean it off the machine and put it back.

These non-reddit type forums with circa 1999 style and layout have become very strange. Now I remember why I stopped coming to these forgotten corners of the web.

Sorry, but I don't understand your point or comment and the link I sent was meant to be constructive and seems quite legit considering it's from the International Hyperhidrosis Society. A place that helps people with the same condition you seem to be afflicted with.

Otherwise as suggested, just get a keyboard cover I guess.
