Hello everyone,

A few week ago, I've bought an old MacBook Pro mid 2012. I overhauled it, by replacing the battery, increased the RAM to 16GB, put a new SSD in it, and replaced the fans. unfortunately I've got some issues now. First my battery charges incredibly slow. It takes almost 14 hours to fully charge it. To my surprise, I've checked the battery cycle count and found that it struck on 1 cycle. However, I've used it almost 10 hours a day for several weeks, so it should be way higher. The second problem I'm currently dealing with is the sound. Once I try to get sound of my speakers, I've got a red light in my aux point. If I blow really hard in the aux port, the red light disappears, and the sound comes out of my speakers. Sometimes I have to blow multiple times. I hope someone can help me fix this problems! thanks in advance!! :D

Welcome to our forums.

The sound problem with the red light on is a common one. Try using a toothpick and carefully see if you can turn off the digital activation by moving the toothpick around in the jack very carefully. As long as the red light is on, the speakers are off. As for the battery, you likely either have a battery that is not compatible or your MagSafe charger is not working right. Could also be a bad DC input board.

Long shot idea on the battery...try an SMC reset. But as chscag mentioned...very likely a bad or incompatible battery.

Thanks a lot for your answer. I'm sure that the battery is compatible because since this problems occurred, I've immediately returned the battery. At first, they had send me an incompatible battery which was the wrong part number. Secondly, they send me the right battery but the same problems occurred. So I had made them aware of my problems and told them that the battery wasn't working properly. So I had send the battery back and they gave me a new one. This time they assured me that the battery was compatible for my macbook, and that they had test it in their warehouse. Of course, it still might be an option that battery isn't working properly, but at this moment, that isn't my first shot. But thank you anyway. Maybe I'll try the SMC reset.
