I admit, I am a terrible procrastinator (and a bit of a cheapskate too, to be honest). Been struggling forever to keep any free space on the HD, which I swapped out a few years ago for a 480GB Crucial SSD.
Finally pulled the trigger on a 1TB Samsung EVO SSD from Amazon, $189 +tax.
After cloning and setting up the recovery partition, I switched it for the 480GB SSD. Everything boots and runs fine, so I decided to update the OS as well, from El Capitan to High Sierra. According to the install window I have about 2 hours and 13 minutes remaining.
If I remember from previous updates, those estimates tend to be very conservative . . . so hopefully I can play with it some tonight before hitting the sack.
