First, not MBP (Macbook Pro), just the Macbook and those prior to 2015 which had the USB-C chargers. Your 2013 MBP doesn't use a USB-C charger but rather the MagSafe which isn't eligible for the replacement. I firmly believe that the fraying of these chargers is purely a mis-use problem. None of my Apple device chargers have ever been damaged. :)

None of mine have ever frayed, either. So I'm another lucky one. I do try not to kink the wire, or force it to bend too sharply, but that's just a good practice for ANY wire. Sharply bending a wire forces the insulation on the interior of the bend to compress and the exterior to be stretched. Insulation does not like that, and if it's done over and over the insulation will eventually fail from fatigue, much like metal fatigue. Also, it's a good idea not to pull out the plug with the cord, but to pull on the plug. Yes, there should be a strain relief inside the plug, but even that can be subject to the same fatigue. Pull on the plug, not the wire.

I have three with MagSafe chargers - a 2009 Macbook, a 2013 Macbook Air and a 2011 MB Pro and they are all fine. So I guess that makes me also a lucky minority too! :D

I have the 2012 MacBook Pro also with the MagSafe charger cable.

and its not got a single bit of damage to the cable so I'm joining the lucky ones in this sense.

It is just the outer plastic coating that is splitting in several places. Where it has split the bits just fall off, rotten!

Well, you need to have an extra care to your MagSafe charger cable. Without proper care, it will cause you to spend money on repairs or replacement. Also, I agree to the previous comment about not to pull out the plug with the cord, but to pull on the plug.

The mag plug just comes off the computer with a light, upwards or downwards pus, pull never need to come into it!
