I am considering the 15in 2016 vintage MBP, but am concerned about HDMI compatibility/reliability. My monitor of choice is a 40in Samsung 4K HDTV, but it is HDMI only.
Anyone out there with the new MBP using HDMI at 4K?
If so, how is it working?

Mike. I thought before you retired that you had your "dream computing setup" in place??;) I know...I know...time marches on & needs change.:)

...but am concerned about HDMI compatibility/reliability. My monitor of choice is a 40in Samsung 4K HDTV, but it is HDMI only.

Just thinking out loud. Do you have a reason to believe there could be a compatibility issue (read something creditable somewhere)?

Hopefully someone will chime in with some first-hand info.:) If not...you could take the plunge yourself. Get the the 2016 MBP, plug in the monitor...and see what happens.:) If problems...return the computer (or give Apple a chance to figure out a fix first).:)

Good luck,

- Nick

I have my dream setup as far as desk and monitor, but have not been able to get my 2012 MacMini to work to my satisfaction as the desktop machine (long story), so my 2012 MBP is chained to the desk in its place. My thought was to leave it where it is an get another laptop to replace it.
But, I have been seeing a lot of negative stuff on the 2016 MBP, to include HDMI stability; and, to be honest, the 2015 and older Retina MBPs don't seem to be all that much of an upgrade from my current laptop. So, I think I have come 180 and will probably by a desktop Mac and let my MBP go back to being a laptop . . .

To that end I have been looking at the iMac again . . . we'll see. ;)

Sounds like the actual purchasing of the computer, getting it, and setting it up is anti-climatic for you. I think that you enjoy the chase more than the capture!;)

Of course you know that if you analyze too long...Apple will release new models...and then you will have to start the analysis all over again!;) Which could be a good thing...since you seem to like the research/analyze part so well.:)

And hey...the analysis is free.:) It's the purchasing that gets expensive!;)

I have been there before. :D

The research and analysis has a big entertainment factor for me (major part of my former career), and it is definitely much cheaper than the actual purchase.

Also known as "Window Shopping". Something my wife loves to do and drives me nuts. (I'm already halfway there, so not to far to go to be completely nuts.) :p

I don't like window shopping, or shopping of any kind. But, I enjoy reading reviews and tests then tabulating and comparing in a spreadsheet. It's an engineer thing . . .
