I have just had the battery replaced in my old macbook air (2008) but it will never fully charge it gets to 75% and then stops. I have reset the smc and pram and left it to charge for 12 hours but still the magsafe light is staying amber and never turning green. is there any way to fix this ?

Thanks Nikki

Some questions:

1. Did the MacBook Air's old battery charge to 100% just before the new battery install?
2. Who installed the new battery?
3. If Apple did not install the new battery…where did the battery come from?
4. How long have you owned the computer?

Hi, Nikki, and welcome to the forums.

Have you tried calibrating the battery since it was replaced? Plug in the Mac, charge it up as far as it will go, let it sit for two more hours, unplug the charger, then use the Mac until the battery runs all the way down and it powers off on its own. Charge it again and see if the max charge amount is higher than before.

1. Did the MacBook Air's old battery charge to 100% just before the new battery install?

yes it charged to 100% but died in just a few minutes

2. Who installed the new battery?

the battery was fitted by a local "mac specialist" that now says he is not able to help as i went for the cheaper option after market battery

3. If Apple did not install the new battery…where did the battery come from?

Regardless of whether you went for the "cheaper option" or not, there should be some sort of warranty. The battery itself should be covered by the manufacturer, and the installer should rightfully replace it for free if this battery was just recently installed (within the last few days) as it would be clear in my mind that it was defective.

Agree with "Ember1025". If not too much time has gone by since the battery install. This "Mac Specialist" should be willing to stand behind their work. The new battery issue may not be due to anything the Mac Specialist did…could be due to the cheaper option battery.

Can you explain exactly what's going on this this situation so we can understand better. For example:

- How long has it been since the repair?
- Is the Mac Specialist refusing to do anything…or not look at anything at all. Or are they saying that the cheaper option battery cannot be returned to the source it was originally purchased from. So they cannot get their money back for the battery…and thus cannot refund you?
