Hello,

I have a mid 2015 Retina Macbook Pro 15 inch running OS X El Capitan (10.11.1). Recently, I started noticing a popping noise during boot-up. It only occurs when the computer is in the boot up screen with the loading bar present. It also does not occur every single time, only when I turn on my computer after long periods of being off (probably over 3-4 hours). So far it does not seem to affecting performance. Is this normal or should I schedule a genius bar appointment? Thanks in advance for your help.

Most of us put our machines to sleep rather than turn them off. The noise you hear could be the power supply but that's just my guess. Your machine has no optical drive and the hard drive is solid state which leaves the power supply as possibly the culprit. If the machine is still under warranty (it should be) let Apple check it out. And welcome to the Mac-Forums.

I agree. Have Apple check it out. If it is not something that happens all the time, try to take a video/sound clip of the problem so you have proof when you go in for your appointment. It will be hard for them to believe you if they can't replicate that noise, especially if it's loud in the store.
