Hello Community!

I am in need of some advice on which MacBook Pro Retina 13" to purchase. I am able to purchase an early 2013 or a new early 2015 at a great price (well at least I think it is!). I know the early 2013 does not have many of the 2015 features, new thunderbolt, new force touch, newer graphics, and size/slimness. I have never owned either one so I am not sure if the old intel i7 (ivy bridge) with a little older technology is better than the new i5 (broadwell) with new technology.

The specs of both are below:

Early 2013 rMBP 13" (basically mint condition)
i7 3GHz
8GB RAM
512GB SSD
Model: 10,2
Price: $1,075

New early 2015 rMBP 13"
i5 2.7GHz
8GB RAM
256GB Flash Storage
Model: 12,1
Price: $1,279.99

Both MacBook Pro Retina's are at cost with no tax.

I am open to any and all advice/comments. I am counting on the community for help!

Thanks in advance!

Hi and welcome to the forum! :) I own an early 2013 rMBP 13" (same RAM but 256 GB SSD) - it's a great machine & still going strong - but I was surprised when I went to Sell Your Mac (entering your data above) - a little shocked at what price the machine would bring, i.e. $630 their estimate (image attached).

Personally, the new MBPro seems like a great deal - the price at the online Apple Store is $1,499 - just curious where you are getting such a good offer? I'm sure other members and mods w/ some great experience will 'chime in' w/ their advice - good luck on your selection. Dave

No question the early 2013 model you're interested may be overpriced. But as Dave pointed out, the 2015 model is a great buy and, is faster than the 2013 model. (primary because of the newer flash storage drive)

Oh wow...I cannot believe the 2013 is only worth $600!

I purchased the new rMBP from someone on eBay the other week. I haven't even opened yet as I wasn't sure which one I should get. I am still within the timeframe to return the new rMBP. It seems based not the responses the new one is the way to go.

Is the processor faster in the newer 2015 or just the storage? Is there a notable difference between the flash storage and the SSD from the 2013?
