Hi hoping someone can help. I turned on my laptop an hour ago and for some reason it now no longer recognises my clicks on the trackpad unless I press REALLY hard. Taps work fine, swipes work fine, all other uses of the trackpad are working fine.

Also no settings have been changed in any way and it was literally fine when i was using it a couple of hours ago.

What could be causing this as its a real problem for me, i do a LOT of dragging of emails into inboxes and my finger is tired after literally one minute of this as i have to push down onto the table for my trackpad to grab hold of a document for me to drag.

Can anyone help I have no idea what to do?

Are you having trouble with he battery not holding a charge as well? Sometimes trackpad behavior such as you describe is the result of battery swelling.

How do you know without opening the computer…removing the battery…and checking it out? Externally everything can look fine…that down't mean everything is fine.:)

Hi Nick no I quite agree its not sure until you take it apart however its a 2 month old from brand new Macbook and was working perfectly an hour before, there is no noticeable bulging and it fits fine on the desk so yes bulging could be the issue but its surely quite unlikely on a virtually brand new machine which is having no noticeable battery problems an hour before this?

One more thing, During this hour i went to the beach and the laptop was kept in a laptop bag out of the sun. Could this be an issue? Its the UK so its not exactly scorching, could a piece of sand be causing this? Perhaps a spray air can inside the machinery? I didn't mention it first as its so unlikely anything got into the macbook that way?

The reason I mentioned the battery is because I had this problem with my '08 MacBook Pro. My wife noticed the same trackpad issue that you did but the amount of extra pressure needed did not bother me initially. Months later it became noticeable to me and I reached the issue to a bad battery.

Since this is a new Mac I'd take it to an Apple Store, if there is one nearby and have them take a look at it.

Ok…didn't realize it was such a new computer. As Slydude mentioned. Have Apple take a look at it.
