my macbook pro keeps getting pop ups, what is the answer

Hello - might want to provide some more information: 1) What browser are you using - I'm assuming Safari; 2) Are these 'pop ups' occurring in your browser(s); 3) What kind of 'pop ups' - just ads or requests to call and provide $$; and 4) What have you done so far, e.g. clear history & website data as already suggested.

Below is a quoted list that I've posted before for dealing w/ mainly 'ransomware' and browser malware in general - some of the steps may help (and certainly look closely at the bottom items) - credit for this list goes to all of the helpful members here who have addressed these issues in the past. Good luck and let us know what helped - Dave :)

Ransomware Removal

Force quit Safari.
Turn off your Wi-Fi or disconnect the ethernet cable.
Reopen Safari and close the offending tab(s).
Clear ‘History & Data’ in the Safari menu.
Reconnect to internet, i.e. Wi-Fi or ethernet cable.
Add ‘extensions’: AdBlock & Ghostery.
Use AdwareMedic for malware removal.
Visit The Safe Mac.
