I am trying to burn videos on dvd+r's on my PC and everytime I try a recommended software, there turns out to be something wong with it. Then I wondered if my macbook comes equipped with one. Does anyone have any recommendations? Much appreciated!

You can download the free "Burn" app from here.

So there's nothing already installed in the standard software that comes with a macbook to burn dvds?
Is this link to software that is really free, without watermarks, severe limitations or a trial version?
Lastly, can you recommend one for PC?
Thanks!

Disk Utility which is included with OS X (Applications, Utilities, Disk Utility) can be used to burn DVDs. Regarding the link I posted, did you go there and check it out? I said it was free, didn't I? It's also Open Source software.

Lastly, can you recommend one for PC?

Try this one.

Helps if you provide the model of your MacBook.

Some early models came fitted out with a Combo CD/CDR optical drive, and not a Superdrive capable of burning DVD's. Go to About this Mac > Disc Burning and see what is reported. On earlier models make sure you are using quality media, such as Verbatim, and DVD-R+ format.

When I go to About this Mac, I don't get the option for disc burning. Does that mean I dont have it?

I seem to have one according to the specs shown. How do I pull it up? Is it reliable? Will it make menu pages for me?

Burn will create the menus for you..

Might be a good idea to actually click on the link, download the software, play around with it and see what it does and does not do. If you find things are missing, perhaps you can put all of your requirements into a single post and people can suggest other programs that might better fit your needs..

In what program is the dvd burner actually located? How do I open it?

Did you download "Burn" from the link I supplied you in my last reply? If you downloaded the correct file, install the "Burn" (yes that's its name) application and then double click it to open. The rest is self explanatory.

I still use iDVD. I believe my Macs all came with it. Apple doesn't support it anymore, but it still works fine for me, if burning a video. iTunes for CDs and Disk Utility for everything else.

I have imovie, but I realized the other issue is that I need a burner that also makes menus. The idea is to be able to put home videos onto dvd's so that they can be played on my dvd player like a movie. Perhaps that's covered by imovie?

iDVD that used to come with iLife Suite will do exactly that.

You might try these
http://support.apple.com/downloads/#idvd

Don't know if they will install and run without the base pkg, but worth a shot

Tried Burn software and it copies my video files but doesn't create a menu. It's very simple in fact, and doesn't even show me the option. What do I need to do to create a nice dvd of family videos we can put into our dvd player and play using a menu like a feature film disc?

Then what you want (that is currently available and supported) is Roxio Toast, currently owned by Corel. It offers to make menus, and convert files as needed and create a disc image and then burn it using the burner (a "burner" is a piece of hardware, ie the DVD optical drive, not software).

It normally costs around $80 but is often on sale. Beware companies ending in -soft or -share that say they can do the same thing ... most of them are run by Chinese spammers you do NOT want to be handing financial info to.

If you have or can get a copy of the iLife DVD that had iDVD on it, you can use that and make a WAAAAY nicer menu presentation than what Toast provides (Toast's options aren't bad -- they only look meh next to Apple's iDVD stuff).
