I have trawled the forums to see if I can find someone with a similar issue, and a solution, but so far to no avail, although I don't believe I am the first! I got a new MacBook Pro in April and from the start had the problem of the wifi connection dropping out. Actually, I don't think it is the wifi, that seems to be ok, but sometimes it happens a couple of times a day, other times, and more often, every 5 to 10 minutes, that the connection drops out. I go to Network diagnostics and it tells me the ISP has failed, i go through the whole assistance process, selecting the type of connection, name, etc, and then it will say (usually at the point that it asks if I use a cable to connect with) that a change in the network configuration was detected and then everything gets a green light and i click OK and I'm back online. So, easy enough to fix each time but UNBELIEVABLY annoying. Other computers on the same modem have no problem, and this has happened not only in my home but also in my sister's home (different countries, different ISP's). Sometimes it tells me Self-assigned IP, but not always. I have tried a variety of solutions that were posted on the forums, from deleting certain files in the library, to creating a new location, to updating the OS (hadn't done that for a while and had the most success with this one, 3 days of relatively no dropping out, but then back to the usual story). I am frustrated. To say the least. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Not sure if I have given all the information needed to make a suggestion, but if not, I will be happy to give any additional info if a solution seems possible. Thank you for reading!

Your Mac's Specs
Macbook air 13" Iphone 5
I have a similar problem and have now worked out it is when my daughter has her iphone 4s on wifi it stops my macbook air from connecting via wifi, also stops other laptops as well. They all work fine when her phone is on 3g. It is only her phone that does this.

Thanks Veg, yes, that was something i was told initially when it first happened. We needed to switch off all devices that were connecting to the modem, then restart the modem and restart each device so that they wouldn't interfere... something like that. Anyway, I have tried that and had no success. I disable the wifi on my iphone when i am at home, and the last few days, after updating the OS, things were going well, but today it has taken a nose-dive and there are NO other devices that connect to the internet. So therefore nothing to interfere... so I am doubtful that this is the problem. Thanks again.

You are definitely not the first and you have described my problem precisely. Please, if you or anyone has a solution for this I would be so grateful to know.

So I have been having this problem as well. And what I believe the issue is is that your modem is assigning currently in use ISP addresses to "new" devices. So anytime a new device connects to your network, there is a chance that it is being assigned the ISP that your using for your computer.
