I spilled through air vents of MacBook Pro (17') yesterday. I took off the cover and dried the computer a few hours. When I turned it on, the starting light was on for a few seconds, then briefly off and then kept on, but the screen remains off. Please advise what went wrong.. Thanks

Probably buy a new computer. Liquids generally toast any electrical devices. I hope you have some luck.

As others have said what went wrong was having liquid near your computer. Liquid + electronics = death alas.

Not leaving it off long enough after the initial spill i would say. As others have said with liquids electrics will die, but i have seen a few threads where people have left Mac/iPhone/iPod off for days on end to make sure its completely dry and then turning it back on and it working. Mind you over time it has ended up dying due to corrosion that forms when this tragedy happens.
My G/F always looks at me when i move my MBP when she places a cup with liquid near it stating " What you dont trust me" and as much as i love her, i say NO. I dont gamble with electronic death.

To be honest, the best option now is to check any household contents insurance you have.

At the time of the accident, you should have immediately shutdown or ejected the battery if an earlier MBP. Then opened up, and if a unibody MBP with a fixed battery, if possible disconnect the battery connector. With some you can, others you need to remove the battery first, and they are held in with security screws. Clean up inside, then remove the logic board and clean up under it, ideally taking ESD precautions, but possibly too late to worry about that. If you don't feel confident doing that find someone that can, or an AASP that will. An Apple store genius bar would probably just quote you for all new parts.
Reassemble and pray.

Only last week I saw one the first unibody 15" MBP's that was was drenched in water, a vase had been knocked over near it and water had enter the rear vent. It was a write off.

If you'd like, you can send it to us for repair.
If we can't fix it, we won't charge you, just the shipping charge you have to pay for.
