This has been going on for 2-3 weeks. I've gone through drastic measures to try to fix it but nothing is working. I've done several factory resets and it simply doesn't do the trick. When I did a factory reset, it still froze on Leopard, and continued through Snow Loepard and Lion when I installed the OS updates. I've also done several diagnostics, and everything passed. Not only that but I upgraded my ram from 2GB to 8GB to see if memory was the issue but its still the same; it lessoned a bit but it still happens. 98% of the time it's usually on Safari, where I open several tabs or simply try to type something in a text feild. When it freezes the color wheel appears and the dock and force quit option become unaccessible--I have to press the power button just to turn it off and turn it back on again. I forgot to mention that before I upgraded my ram, it continsuously got a gray screen saying I was low in memory when an hour or two earlier I did a factory reset with zero programs running and zero files downloaded. I also have done a disk repair, and permission repairs... still, nothing.

It's extremely frustrating because a majority of my homework is online and when this happens, I lose it all and have to start all over again.
Does anyone have an idea on whats going on? I'm assuming it has to do something with the hardware? I hope it isn't tho... I can't afford to fix it at the moment.

Try replacing the hard drive if that does not work then it is probably the Logic Board. You can get a new hard drive and install it yourself for about 50 dollars.
