Whenever I leave my 13" mbp from 2009 with the lid open and it goes into hibernation I experience the following problem. I press the power button to restore or awaken the computer and the screen lights up and appears to awake but only for about 5 seconds before going back into hibernation mode. I have to wait another 5 seconds before it is fully hibernated again and then pressing the power button again awakens the computer for good.

Why does my mbp snap back into hibernations and need to be awakened a second time before working? please help me.

Try just pressing a key on the keyboard rather than pressing the power button on it.

Hope this helps

I usually just wipe my finger back-and-forth across the trackpad. But pushing any key works fine too.

both the trackpad and keys dont work! that is why I usually have press the power button.

the keyboard or trackpad work just after it has gone to sleep but after sleeping for a while it goes into a deeper sleep (excuse my lack of technical language) and once it is in this deep sleep I can either close the lid and then reopen it or press the power button. Closing and reopening the lids works fine but pressing the power button gives me this problem with it going back to sleep and having to wake it up a second time.

Also when I force the computer into sleep mode and then wake it up with either the keyboard or the power button (trackpad doesnt work) it works perfectly. It only this unintentional deep sleep (after an hour or so) where I have this problem.

OK so after some tests here is the update:

Forced sleep: Both the keyboard and powerbutton awaken the computer properly first try.

Sleep due to inactivity: Once the computer enters sleep modus and the sleep light on the front of the computer begins to flash off, bot the keyboard and the powerbutton produce the same problem where the computer flashes on after the first push and then falls back to sleep but the second push works properly.

Any ideas? Other than that the computer is working perfectly still, more than 2 years without a single problem.
