macbook pro 13-inch - fan

Hi all,
Just bought a 13-inch macbook pro (three weeks old) and I've yet to hear the fan - is that strange or typical? Only "heavy" use would be streaming web vids - otherwise browsing.
Also, it's connected to a cinema monitor, wirless keyboard and mouse - should I be leaving the macbook open to ?breath"? Or can I leave the screen closed down?

I like using iStat Pro in widgets to monitor fan and speed ,to make for a cooler running laptop I like to leave the screen open since
air is circulated through the keyboard to some extent.
