Hi, I've done a lot of searching but haven't found anyone who seems to have had the problem that I'm having right now. I have a late 2007 model macbook pro and its been running fine. I was just using it, then I closed the display, came back twenty minutes later, and it was turned off (the power adapter was plugged in during this whole time). Now, when I try to turn it back on, the little white light on the bottom will light up for about 5 seconds and you will hear the computer wake up, and then it will shut down as if I'm holding the power button down. The display never comes on, it just stays black. The battery has full power, the power adapter is working fine, I tried resetting the SMC, tried starting it with the battery out and the power adapter plugged in, tried inserting the install disk and booting up while holding 'c' (you can hear it try to boot up from the disk but still shuts off after about 5 seconds), nothing works. i also tried turning it on and pressing command+control+p+r. Please help.
Thanks

I'm not sure if I still do or not. Like I said, I bought it in '07 and I'm not sure when apple care expires. I'm about to call apple so I'll make another post about what the outcome is.

Applecare expires 12 months after you purchase a new computer from Apple. If you did not purchase extended Applecare...then your Applecare is expired.

Make sure you get an appointment before you drive 4 hours otherwise you may be staying overnight in your auto waiting for the store to open the next day. :\

Depending on what country you are located in...you could always ship your computer to Apple. I know recently a Mac-Forums member (in the US) shipped their computer to Apple for diagnosis & repair...and they got their computer back in very quickly...like less than a week.

If you drive 4 hours to & from your nearest Apple Store...they may or may not be able to fix it right away. Either because it may be a more involved repair or possibly if they don't have the part they may need to fix it.

Regardless...like bobtomay said...make an appointment first. When you have Applecare...this can be done online. I would also recommend that you call the actual Apple Store you are going to visit to explain the computer situation...and get their opinion on the likelihood that they can repair it while you wait. You don't want to drive 4 hours to the Apple Store...find out it's going to take longer to repair than you can wait (such as at least overnight)...then have to drive 4 hours back home. Then have to drive 8 hours round trip to pick up the repaired computer...thus a total of 16 hours of driving!!!:(

Good luck,

- Nick

Thanks for all the input. I did end up driving over there and they said that its a hardware problem that needed to be repaired. They had to mail my MBP to TX and said it will be about a week or two to repair it. Luckily they're gonna ship it back to my house, rather than the apple store that I had to take it to.
But ya, I should have mailed it in, myself, and saved the time/gas that it took to drive to the apple store.

I know I still have the receipt but I honestly could not find it anywhere. I don't remember exactly what was wrong, but it was a hardware problem and they needed to ship it in for repairs. I had the extended apple care so they fixed it for free but on the receipt, I remember the price coming to ~$330. I wish I could find the recept that shows what they replaced. I'll keep looking.
