13 inch MacBook Pro. Decisions..

I am in the process of acquiring my first MAC and will go with the MBP 13 inch since its a good size plus for money reasons its right on the spot. The issue that I currently have is if I should wait to buy one or if I should just go ahead and buy it?

I know that in the even, "Back to Mac" it was announced that some new software upgrades will be happening, but will this mean that current MBP owners can't download an upgrade and get this new software (ilife 11) or are they simply screwed with what they got? What about a new operating system?

My concern was with the Intel Core 2 Duo in the 13 inch MBPs, so do you think Apple will upgrade to an i3 or i5 on these ones? if so, how long till this happens?

I just need some good advice since I am making my switch to MAC and want to make a good smart move.

The short answer is we do not know when and what they plan to upgrade. All we can do is speculate.

There is not much difference between the 13 inch MBP and the Macbook unibody casing and the option for SSD (costs extra).

And I'd not be worried about the C2D becoming unsupported by Apple for a very long time to come. As the new MBA's have the C2D's in them. So I think the C2D's are here to stay for a long time to come.

Go Here and it shows a pretty good estimate on updates. If you want some simple notebook, the Macbook Air was just released yesterday. I got an email and its beginning price is $949 with Education pricing. Same price as the Macbook 13".

As far as a new operating system, I doubt that one will come out soon. And new software release, if you buy a Macbook pro from apple directly, you get iLife 11. And for stuff like Microsoft office, if you buy MS Office 2008, you get a free upgrade for when MS Office 2011 come out. This offer ends November 30th.

Processor upgrade on the Macbook Pro will probably come around in about the next two, to 5 months. (I'd hope).

Now, Why do you want the MBP over the normal MacBook?


The difference between them are the display and the Ram, and a few more ports (usb, line in/out, etc)
If you want it as your everyday computer just get a MacBook, it has 2gb RAM and a good display. You can upgrade the RAM from buying it from Crucial for much less than Apple. [Here's a link]

If you want to record, edit videos, especially when you get into HD editing, you'd want the MBP. It's display is better.

But, for the MBP, if you can wait, wait. If you need it, just get it.

simple advice: if you need it now then buy it now.

Apple will more than likely upgrade the MB and 13" MBP to i3 processors in the next refresh (from what I've read this can be anytime during 1H 2011).

The C2D processor is not slow. I have the 2010 model MB with 2.4GHz C2D and it is very fast. I mainly use my macbook for email/internet and organising my photos.

I think the next MB/MBP revision will be significant. A lot of people complained that the MBP was released with a C2D and not a corei processor. Also the summer revision will bring OSX lion. Coupled with the latest release of iLife11 that means potentially we will see the MBP with a new processor + new OS + new ilife suite compared to todays system.

I have the same problem!!

SO...do u know if the new OS will work in the current MBP?? IF I buy it now I would like to be able to install it next year!

And about the price...now its very good, specially in Hong kong and the new one maybe it will be more expensive??

I have the same problem...Im thinking about buying it now since it is way cheaper than in Spain....what a dilema!!
