mbp 2007 2.2 a1226 HD upgrade question

i have a JULY 2007 MPB 2.2 A1226 w/ silver keys. Will replacing my current 160 7200 Hd with a seagate momentus 500GB 7200rpm be okay for heat? i read something on amazon reviews -

about the breather hole for a different hitachi drive.

i don't know if the reviewer has the same mbp as me, but i'm concerned for having the same problem.

however, the fact that i have a 7200 rpm drive already is good, i just don't know where the breather holes are on these new drives - and i don't want to have to rig up a special wiring plan.

I fail to see any problem. And I think the review by Mr. Porter was a bit over the top. All hard drives - especially those which are for notebooks use breather vents or "holes". Heat is conducted away from the drive as air is drawn in. Remember that notebook computers are confining which is the reason why properly operating fan(s) are so important.

You should have no problem with the Seagate provided you follow the instructions given at the ifixit site for HDD replacement in your model. If you have to reorient any cables, just do it carefully. Also be aware that Apple does not recommend user HDD replacement in your model MBP because of the amount of dismantling that must be done to get at it.

However, if you're careful and follow the step by step at ifixit you should be OK. Don't forget to make a backup before you start.

sensors on the original HDD

When you swap out your old HDD you'll find a sensor attached you will need to remove carefully and replace onto the new one, now i presume from researching that this is for temp. I guess here that this new HDD should be fine i mean those older iMacs get really warm anyway. I trust you will watch a video prior to disassembling your iMac unless you have experience, i did and they are in fact remarkably simple to strip (you-tube). Just be nimble but firm and have a area ready for you'll need to lay it flat when removing the screen and RAM cover.
