Why is my Macbook "sharing"?

Alright so sometimes when I open the Finder I see "Shared" under "Devices". Why is this happening? I don't want to share with anybody.

In system preferences under internet and wireless do you have anything checked in the folder labeled sharing.

Whatever is listed under Shared are devices you can see.

Has nothing to do with whether you are sharing anything or not.

So it's basically telling me that I CAN share with those computers if I want? But won't do anything unless I agree to connect?

No, it means those machines have sharing turned on.

Has nothing to do with whether you are sharing anything on your machine or not.

If you connect to them through Finder, you can browse whatever it is they have shared.

Whatever they can browse on your computer would show up there, on their computers. But, nothing will show up on theirs unless you turn on sharing in your preferences.

Alright. Thanks for the help. This may not be possible, but is it possible to get rid of that from showing in the Finder?

highlight Sidebar at the top

uncheck everything under Shared
