Apple Powerbook G4 17in

Hey Guys/ Galls

Basically i have just acquired a Powerbook G4 with the following specs.
Apple Power book G4
Processor - 1GHz
Memory - 1GB
Hard Drive 60GB

I have done work on my previous laptop but have been reading on how to upgrade this mac. Ideally i would like to upgrade the three above items.

Being a total Mac Noob i have no idea what to be looking for or where to get it from as most websites say that this should be a professional install.

Just a bit of background my main industry is live sound at theatre performances and live rock gigs. So i would like the laptop to be able to cope with RT Analyzers and other industry related software with ease.

Any ideas or suggestions
would be most appreciated

You can upgrade two of three items you mentioned:

1. Memory can be upgraded to max of 2 GB (although Apple officially says 1 GB )

2. Hard drive can be upgraded to a larger one. (Ultra ATA)

The CPU (PPC G4) can not be upgraded since it's hard wired to the machine.

Still a very nice machine that should last for awhile. You can also upgrade the OS X version to 10.5.8 Leopard.

In my opinion, RAM is the most feasible if not the only truly feasible upgrade.
Yes, you can upgrade the HDD, but it is a real pain in the posterior to do so.
Taking apart a PowerBook G4 is a daunting task, not for the faint of heart.
Even those experienced in the fine art of disassembling computers will have a challenge ahead of them.

i knew about the difficult hard drive as i found that out the other day when trying ot examine to see if the hard drive and proccesor were easily upgradable or not. i got to the stage when i had the top shell off up to the bottom of the keyboard but there was something still holding it down... think it was a multipin connector or something will take another look over christmas when i've got enough time to look.. cheers though.
