RAM - need expert help

Hi,

I'm buying a 1GB memory stick for my Powerbook.
This is the model:

Apple*PowerBook G4 1GHz (15-inch Display PC2700 DDR)

I'm comparing two sticks right now, from Crucial:

Crucial DDR SO-DIMM PC2700 1024MB CL2,5*Non-parity, 2.5V, 128M x 64, 6ns, 200p

and a Corsair Value, which is a lot cheaper:

Corsair Value DDR SO-DIMM PC3200 1024MB*Unbuffered, Non-ECC, 128Megx64

The only difference apart from PC2700/PC3200 (which is known to work), is the CAS Latency

Crucial: CL2.5
Corsair: CL3.0

I know a little about CAS Latency and I'm not worried about that (no overclocking etc.).

The other thing is the support voltage:

Crucial: 2.5V
Corsair: 3.0V

Could this be a problem? If I buy the cheaper Corsair I want it to happily coexist with the 256MB stick that came with the machine.
I don't know anything about "support voltage".

Apart from this I see no reason not to buy the Corsair stick.
Need some advice here...

Thanks,

jp

The Corsair you listed doesn't meet the requirements for your PowerBook. Your machine requires memory with a CAS latency of 2.5 and an operating voltage of 2.5V.

If you're looking for good prices on 100% guaranteed-compatible RAM for your machine, I'd recommend checking out OWC or MacSolutions.

Ah. "Requires". That's the word I needed to hear. Thanks!

I took those specs from Apple's Technical Notes. You can check out the notes for your system if you want to confirm compatibility of different RAM modules.

I read it somewhere that Corsair Memory is the best memory for PC overclockers...

I'm not sure that's the case with Apple...

You can go with 3rd party 1GB stick but make sure check their return policy...

Can you point me to the specific article inside Tech Notes?
I couldn't find any RAM-stuff there.

Thanks,

jp
